Within the womb; not yet born.

A show on birth, death and things in between. My most personal exhibition to this date took place in Lisbon at Útero art space in 2021. It consists of a journey to my center and an expedition through the collective unconscious told by people and places.

What is the relation between the tomb and the womb, the post-death and pre-birth states?

Is there a space you occupy after you die and before you are born? Do you possess consciousness in these two conditions, or is it just a long sleep? Do we live many lives, and can we bring information with us from these unknown regions?

These are some of the questions addressed by this body of work. Visitors descending into the underground space are confronted with a series of archetypes. They can be understood as memories from a past existence or challenges and motifs that will be encountered in the coming life.

The exhibition was created as an ensemble. The gallery is transfigured into a place outside of space and time. Different types of technology are used to tell this story. Fire, the prima techné, renders visible the artworks created by manipulation of matter. Its contemporary offsprings: artificial light and projections, bathe all that is of a digital family in blue neon-like light.

The narrative unfolds through the symbolic and spatial relations between the elements and is made open-ended by Nidra, an ever-changing generative work.
